Copyright

Purpose of this Page

This page isn't really about the copyright terms of this website, but more about what copyright is, and copyright on the web.

What is Copyright?

Copyright is a set of rights a person has upon creating an original piece of work, and by piece of work I mean pieces of art, books, magazine articles, movies and even websites. The following are some of the rights a person is afforded to him with a copyright: right to sell, license, copy, distribute or change it. There are two ways for something to be copyrighted. The 1st is through the formal process of applying for copyright protection, and the 2nd is simply creating the work and publishing it to its medium. Despite the common misconception that if something is on the internet it is free, the truth is quite contrary. If it's on the internet, then it should be assumed it is copyrighted and if you want to use the piece of work, permission needs to be given for its use. Assume things are copyrighted, and ask the webmaster for permission to use it.
